5/25 HISTORY Channel Presents Free NYC Pop-Up #MusicFestival – “Rhythm & ROOTS”

Contributed Article – WHAT:​ ​On Wednesday, May 25 HISTORY® will pay homage to the rich history of music in African culture with a free day of music throughout NYC in celebration of the network’s epic miniseries, ROOTS (premiering Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, 2016 at 9 PM ET/PT) – a reprisal of the historical portrait of American slavery recounting the journey of one family and their will to survive and carry on their legacy despite hardship. ROOTS stars Academy Award® winners Forest Whitaker (“Fiddler”) and Anna Paquin (“Nancy Holt)” plus Grammy Award® winner Tip “T.I.” Harris​ ​(“Cyrus”) and more.


Throughout the day, HISTORY® will feature locally based artists in free performances across the city including parks, public spaces and key transit hubs. The day will round out with an exciting headlining performance by Four-Time Grammy Award® winner Esperanza Spalding, which will take place at the iconic Adam Clayton Powell Plaza in Harlem.

Performances will kick off in Queens and will continue throughout the day across the five boroughs.
